Synopsis

Starring Amanda Burton as pathologist Doctor Sam Ryan, Silent Witness follows the world of the all embracing forensic pathologist. Sam has a passionate notion of justice that often doesn’t always accord with that of the police. For Sam, each dead body deserves nothing but the truth. Every case has its secrets and Sam is determined to find them. Her direct and honest approach often leads to confrontation both in her personal and professional life.

In Series 3, we find Sam tackling the murder of a personal friend, Dr Annabelle Evans, a senior lecturer in genetics at a Cambridge college. Her grief and anger threaten to destroy her usual clinical detachment especially when the clever and extremely dangerous killer may well be setting his sights on Sam herself. The Series also investigates the death of a glamorous teenage girl, the murky world of drug dealers, undercover detectives and corrupt policemen are also examined when the body of a young mother and her baby daughter are discovered in a squalid flat.

In Series 4, Sam is now Professor Ryan, teaching pathology at London University - but still consulting on cases which demand her highly developed professional skills and tenacity. The series deals with some highly unusual deaths including that of the passengers onboard a helicopter heading for an oil rig, a gangland murder that stirs violence and a cinema fire.

This wonderful series, stars a wealth of cameos from actors such as Jack Dee (Lead Balloon), Idris Elba (The Wire), Adrian Lester (Hustle), Joe Absolom (Eastenders) and Kevin Bishop (The Kevin Bishop Show). Silent Witness Series 3&4 is available on DVD from 8th March priced, £24.99.
