Synopsis

From the award winning natural history unit comes a fascinating insight into the world of the Banded Mongoose – a world of mischief and mayhem. Using a mixture of traditional and miniature critter cams, follow every moment of there adventurous daily lives in this enthralling series.

Living in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park they treat the place like they own it. Never far from trouble, they're a boisterous, cheeky, and extremely mischievous mob of Banded Mongooses – a proper mini-mafia. But don’t be taken in by their cute looks, these are hard-nosed survivors.

Unlike other social animals the unruly banded mongoose lives in family groups with more than one breeding female. This and other unique and fascinating behaviour has brought them to the attention of scientists from Exeter and Cambridge University, who have been studying these lively creatures for over ten years with the Banded Mongoose Research Project.

Willing to stand up to baboons, eagles and animals far larger than themselves, they are dedicated and fearless parents. They don’t seem to care who they get into scrapes with and are fiercely territorial fighting bitter feuds with other mobs coming into their area. But they do have a dark side. The large number of breeding females and synchronised births in the troop means that overnight dozens of pups are born – but sometimes, the pups worst enemy can be members of their own family.

Uncover the captivating world of these unique and distinctive creatures in Banded Brothers: The Mongoose Mob, available on DVD from 18th January 2010, priced £19.56.
